Barbara began her career in furniture at Voltage Inc, a high-end European furniture showroom, in 2001. She first focused on accounting and marketing but began occasionally filling in for the sales team, learning about and discovering her passion for the product.  Barb soon realized there was an integral but missing piece in the business: the market needed a Contract/A&D representative.  In 2004 she created her own position and started calling on the A&D community, never looking back.

As the Contract/A&D Sales Representative, Barbara educated architects and designers on the value of her product and how to best use it in their spaces. Her focus has been on decorative lighting and furnishings for corporate, hospitality, dining and retail spaces. Using a vast array of original, design-driven products, she defined Voltage as the leading contract firm in the region.

After 15+ years at Voltage, Barbara decided to transfer her skills and relationships to a new venture of her own: Design Lab. Barbara is excited to grow relationships locally and internationally through Design Lab and continue to share her knowledge and love for beautiful and functional design.  Some of her current clients include FRCH, KZF, BDHP, Gensler, Macy’s, and Vocon.

A native of Cincinnati, she earned her Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Ohio University.

A graduate of the interior design program at Miami University, Hillary joined Design Lab excited to represent and learn more about genuinely unique, intelligent designs and join a far-reaching, international community of creative, passionate, and talented professionals. With previous professional design experience in both Cincinnati and the Boston area, Hillary looks forward to collaborating with a new, dynamic team as well as bringing her knowledge, curiosity, and creativity to new projects and clients.

Her time spent traveling and studying architecture in Turkey and India, as well as her LEED Green Associate certification, undoubtedly affect Hillary’s cultural and environmentally-sensitive approach to design solutions.  Holistically-driven, thoughtful design—considering all users, markets, possibilities and effects that time allows for—is integral to Hillary’s personal quest for “good design for good”, and, above all, integrity.

Outside the workplace, Hillary isn’t shy about proclaiming her love for her pup, Molly.  If a trip to a dog park or a hike doesn’t succeed in tuckering the both of them out, the inseparable pair can be seen jogging around Eden Park or exploring her newly adopted neighborhood of OTR.
